MOVIE IDEA, gleaned from a book on the history of Mexican Art

21 08 2010

I can’t find and example of the illustration, but will.

Here’s how the text reads:

“In the sixteenth century, Mexican friars crossed the Pacific Ocean and tried to bring Christianity to Japan … Japanese warlords crucified the friars.”

The illustrations in he book show a rowboat of friars crossing the pacific, praying.  The next illustration shows a row of the same friars hanging from crosses, with the Japanese warlords stabbing spears into their ribs.

What an amazing, hidden, exploitable piece of multicultural history.  Can you imagine the cultural freak out between 1500’s Mexico and Japan?

(Yes, eventually I WILL deal with the Conquistadors, mofo.)

Speaking of Documentaries: Update to “Capturing the Friedmans”

18 08 2010

GARDEN CITY, N.Y. — A prosecutor said Tuesday she will select a group of law-enforcement, legal and social science experts to help her investigators review a notorious child molestation case from the 1980s, although a defense attorney says he prefers the involvement of an independent prosecutor.

Nassau County District Attorney Kathleen Rice’s announcement comes a day after a federal appeals court criticized police, prosecutors and the judge who handled the case against Arnold and Jesse Friedman.

A teenage Friedman and his father pleaded guilty in 1988 to molesting 13 children during computer classes in the basement of their home in Great Neck, on Long Island. Jesse Friedman has long contended he was coerced into making the guilty plea and the U.S. Second Circuit Court of Appeals said Monday there is good cause to believe that might be true.

“The record here suggests ‘a reasonable likelihood’ that Jesse Friedman was wrongfully convicted,” the judges said in a ruling rejecting Friedman’s appeal on technical grounds. The judges noted that “the police, prosecutors and the judge did everything they could to coerce a guilty plea and avoid a trial.”

Jesse Friedman, now 40, was paroled in 2001; his father committed suicide in prison in 1995. The pair were charged with several hundred counts of sex abuse. Their story was the subject of the 2003 Oscar-nominated documentary “Capturing the Friedmans.”

The documentary, which featured archive video footage of the Friedmans, revealed evidence prosecutors had withheld – that at least one of the children who accused Friedman did so under hypnosis arranged by police.

Rice, who was elected in 2005 and had no role in the initial prosecution, said in a statement that she has ordered that all the records and files from this conviction be delivered to investigators immediately.

“I expect to waste no time in starting this necessary process,” said Rice, who is seeking the Democratic nomination for state attorney general. She said because she wants “to ensure the transparency and impartiality of the investigative process, I have chosen to impanel a team of recognized law-enforcement, legal and social science experts to work alongside my prosecutors throughout this investigation.”

Qu’ran Vs. Bible

16 08 2010

Which is more violent, the Bible or the Quran?

Which is more violent, the Bible or the Quran? Is there a way to objectively answer such a question?

Well, it wouldn’t be easy. But it is possible to compare the amount of cruelty and violence in the two books. Here is a summary of the highlighted verses in the SAB and SAQ.

Number of Cruel or Violent Passages
Bible 842
Quran 333

So the Bible has more than twice as many cruel or violent passages as does the Quran. But the Bible is a much bigger book. How do they compare when size is taken into account?

Violence and Cruelty Total verses Percent
Bible 842 31102 2.71
Quran 333 6236 5.34

When expressed as a percentage of cruel or violent verses (at least as marked in the SAB/Q), the Quran has about twice that of the Bible. (5.34 vs. 2.71%)*

Of course this analysis does not consider the extent of the cruelty in the marked passages. And that is an important consideration. Is Numbers 31:14-18, for example, more cruel than Quran 5:34? That is something that each person must decide.

A good argument could be made that either book is the most violent and cruel book ever written. The award would go to one or the other, for neither has any close competitors. It is frightening to think that more than half of the world’s population believes in one or the other.

*The actual percentages are probably somewhat higher, since not all cruel or violent passages are marked in the SAB/Q and many of the marked passages contain more than a single verse.

When Strippers Fight Back :

For the past four years, the pussy shakers at Foxhole strip club in Ohio have come to work each day to find the members of a nearby Christian church protesting their asses and condemning them to hell. That’s considered dirty talk to all of us sluts around here, but the strippers don’t appreciate that shit!

The pastor of New Beginnings Ministries leads the protests which usually involves blow horns (not in a sexy way) and signs with bible verses on them. The protesters also videotape the license plates of the club’s customers to post on the internet. Well, the strippers have had enough of New Beginnings trying to deflate their nipples, so they ventured into the daylight to fight back!

Right before mass this past Sunday, the strippers arrived at New Beginnings in their bikinis to hold a protest of their very own. As churchgoers shuffled in, the strippers of the Foxhole greeted them with their titties, a smile and a few messages of their very own.

The strippers and the churchgoers should come together over a lap dance followed by a bottle of church wine. Why fight when they can join forces for the greater cause? I mean, if such a thing as a strip club/church existed, I’d probably go to mass every damn night! Correction: If such a thing as a strip club/church/In-N-Out existed, I’d definitely go to mass every damn night!

Below is a clip of the strippers talking about their cause. Shelley Duvall can make her big comeback when she plays Lola Lorain in the Lifetime movie version of this.
